You are in the right place! This play is a brilliant comedy about a young man named Chaturbhuj who returns to his village after passing his exams, only to find that everyone is more interested in his cat than his success! In this guide, I have provided a simple summary, character details, and the most important questions and answers to help you prepare for your Maharashtra Board exams.

Summary of the lesson -

"The Welcome" is a funny one-act play written by Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore. The play revolves around Chaturbhuj Babu, who returns to his village after passing his MA exams, expecting to be celebrated and admired by everyone. However, instead of focusing on his academic achievement, the villagers are more interested in trivial matters, such as the plump Afghan cat that Chaturbhuj has brought with him.

In Scene I, Chaturbhuj meets Nilratan, who shows more interest in the cat than in Chaturbhuj's success. Chaturbhuj tries to talk about his exams and the subjects he studied, but Nilratan keeps interrupting him to ask about the cat—where he got it and how much he paid for it. Chaturbhuj becomes increasingly frustrated as he realizes that his academic achievement is being overshadowed by the cat, highlighting the irony and humour of the situation.

Hindi Translation:

Marathi Translation:
