Am, is, are and was, were

  Am, is and are And Was, were Am', 'is' and 'are' are special helping verbs. They are used when the action is happening right now i.e. present time.  'Was' and 'were' are in the past tense. They're used for the things or events that have already happened. Am, is, are and was, were are 'to be ' verbs. They show the existence of something.   Kinds of sentences There are five kinds of sentences. Assertive sentence Interrogative sentence Imperative sentence Exclamatory sentence Optative sentence Assertive sentence - Assertive sentence is also called declarative sentence or statement . It states some fact. It ends with a full stop. He is a clever boy. Ram is a rich man. Interrogative sentence - Interrogative sentence is the sentence which asks a question. It often begins with a helping verb or with a wh-word. Where are you going? Are you crazy? Imperative sentence - The imperative sentence is a sentence which expresses order, instruction, advice, suggestion or warning etc. Generally, imperative sentence begins with action verb, and if negative, it begins with 'Don't'.   The sentence  A-B-C-D......Z are the alphabets in English. They are also called letters. If we put together some letters, we form a group of letters.  But if that group of letters doesn't make any sense it cannot be called a word. E.g. peytmsr A meaningful group of letters is called a word . E.g. t-a-b-l-e = table In the same way, a meaningful group of words is called a phrase. Subject-predicate Every sentence has two parts. Subject Predicate 1. What is Subject - The part of the sentence telling us about the person or thing about whom/what we are speaking is called the subject. If we question the verb with who/what we get the subject of that sentence.   E.g . Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall. Here when we ask the question - "Who sat on the wall?" We get the answer - "Humpty Dumpty." So, Humpty Dumpty is the subject of the sentence. E.g . Still water runs deep . What runs deep? "Still water." So, 'still water' is the subject in the 2nd sentence. 2.
