Expansion of Ideas

Expansion of Idea

After reading this blog on "writing expansion of ideas in English" students will learn how to expand an idea in effective, organized and clear way.

Knowledge is Power

Knowledge gives us the power to control things and ignorance makes us powerless against them. So it was Francis Bacon who said that knowledge is Power which means knowledge and power are synonymous terms. It is a metaphorical statement if we see the history too, we find that kings were the rulers but they were guided by the priest or Rajpurohits. In the Tenaliram’s case, too, we find that, no doubt, King Krishna Dev Rai was a very scholar and intelligent king but he always took the advice of his Rajpurohit or Tenaliram. When we read the stories of Akbar-Birbal again, we find that we are on the same page to accept knowledge as power.

Man is also a creature like other creatures. But only due to his brain i e. his knowledge, he is superior to all other mighty and ferocious wild animals. Shivaji could establish his own kingdom in just a teenage only on the basis of his knowledge. So one should always try to make oneself better. The most admirable thing about learning is that nobody can take it away from us. Knowledge is important for personal growth and development.

Work is worship

We must treat our work with utmost importance. Work is worship means work and worship are the synonyms terms. When we treat our work as god and have great respect for it then we succeed. No doubt the proverb does not literally focus on the true worship of the work.

If we have faith in our work we will not lose hope in life even when things are really gone terrible. We will be able to make our way out of it by working hard. Thus when we worship our work we have a peaceful mind and soul. Only our work adds a great meaning to life. If we do not work life becomes dull and uninteresting.

Every great thing has been achieved through hard work. Shivaji’s efforts for the freedom, our freedom fighters who struggled for the independence, all these things tell us the importance of hard work with great potential. Even when we turn to scientific inventions we find that they were not just accidental inventions! Outstanding efforts of the scientist made them available for us.

Thus there is no option to hard work and we can work very hard when we have great respect for it i. e. when we worship our work.

A friend in need is a friend indeed.

It was Euriphide, the Greek playwright, in the 4th century BC who used this term for the first time. This proverb literally means that a friend who helps in our needs is a true friend. If someone helps us while we are in great trouble, only then he is our true friend. But on the other hand, if someone is our friend and he doesn’t help us when we are in trouble, then he is not our true friend.

We know the story of two friends. They were going through a forest. A bear came in between. One climbed the tree but the other couldn’t. He lied on the ground and stopped breathing for sometime. The bear came to him, observed and went away. Hardly had the bear gone, when the boy came down and asked what the bear had told near his ear. He said “a friend in need is a friend indeed".

He was not true friend because when the bear came he ran away leaving his friend helpless in the mouth of a bear. He got the taste of a real friend. He understood that he was not that person on whom he could rely during his difficult times. Thus ‘a friend in need is a friend indeed' is true.

Make hay while the sun shines.

The simple adage has a deep deep and clear meaning. Once the sun has set, you cannot make hay (fodder for animals). Hay is a dried grass. We can make it only in the summer when the sun shines brightly. Once the sun is gone, one can do nothing but repent. Thus we get the proverb. It explains to us the importance of using the opportunity as it arrives. It teaches us to exhort ourselves to grab the arrived opportunity.

Actions are ours but their proper opportunities belong to heaven.

As Sir P. Francis

If we are unable to avail the opportunity, no amount of repentance and remorse can bring it. The farmer has to do his fieldwork at the proper time. Once the time has slipped, we will gain nothing. If someone is impressed by your gesture, it's the time when you should try your best to exert yourself a little more and turn him into a permanent friend. Once an orator sees that his listeners agree with him, he should explain his views more emphatically with all efforts.

" I shall tell you a great secret, my friend. Do not wait for the opportunity, it takes place every day".

says Albert Camus.

If you are in search of good books, and there is a bounteous stock, at the bookseller, buy your books without delay. If you are a student, study while there is time. Once the examinations are over, you can do nothing but break your head against books.

It is said, "Opportunity knocks at the door, but once." And so, we should be always ready to open the door when opportunity knocks at our door.

"Time and tide wait for none. We have to keep a constant watch and the moment the tide turns in our favor, we ought to take a plunge."

Shakespeare, in his play Julius Caesar.

The given proverb is highly associated with the well-known proverb-

"After all the Actions speak louder."

Don't cry over spilled milk.

Being upset over 'something that has already happened and can't be changed' is futile. One wants to boil milk, but if it spills down while boiling,  can we get it back, if we cry for it? It is nothing but foolishness to brood over it.

The lives of many great people are filled with initial defeats which they never looked back at.  We cannot change the past. It is not so, that Shivaji Maharaj in his efforts of achieving Swaraj was not defeated. But if he had wasted his time "brooding over it, we would not have seen the Maharashtra, as we see it today. Mahatma Gandhi, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar, Abraham Lincoln and so many more great names faced failure in their initial efforts. But they didn't take the failure to their heart. they were never sick at heart.

Old failures should not stand in the way of our success.

"Past is past what has been, has been' says. the poet Berton Bratley.

Our past will not help us in our new beginning. Time is swift and we have to do a lot within the limited time. The hidden troubles and worries are not the things to lose our heads. We should not be sick at heart for these past failures because we have to turn over a new leaf.

What matters is 'today' and 'tomorrow' is soon approaching. Accept the present challenge fearlessly and let the past be history. We should Try hard to achieve success, repeatedly if necessary. The events which have taken place have already happened and no one can change anything now. The past is over and done with.

Little Knowledge is dangerous One

Knowledge is very necessary.  Without knowledge, living is in vain. Knowledge is power.

A little knowledge is a dangerous thing - it only hastens fools to rush in where angels fear to trade.

Samuel Johnson

A brain with knowledge is always active. Knowledge should be attained at any cost. But a little knowledge is always very dangerous, though it may be considered to be better than no knowledge.

An empty vessel makes much noise. A person with little knowledge lives in a false world. He assumes himself to be a knowledgeable person. He is not ready to listen to others, to accept others. He treats others with little respect. He keeps trying to achieve things with his little knowledge.

Many times it is so dangerous that it may harm others. If a person is not eligible to be a teacher i.e. if he doesn't have a thorough knowledge of any subject and if such a person teaches, it leads the student to the wrong notions. If a doctor has half knowledge and he treats his patient with the wrong treatment, it may kill his patient.

Here, it reminds me of an episode from the epic Mahabharata. revolving around Abhimanyue. Only Arjun and Dronacharya knew how to crack the Chakravyuha. Abhimanyu knew how to enter it but not how to get it. This half-knowledge killed him.

A driver, who hasn't proper knowledge of driving may start over 60km/h and can kill others. If some person reads about swimming but had never tried it, he has only half knowledge. Based on his theory, if he gets into water, he may drown.

True knowledge is true power. It never drives a -person. It is not shameful to be with little knowledge but pretending and acting likewise is highly dangerous to a great extent.
