- The reporting verb is changed to give an appropriate sense as: exclaimed, prayed, thanked, whispered, applauded,etc.
- If any strong expression is revealed from the exclamatory sentence, adverbs like angrily, lovingly, sadly, or adverb phrases like with fear, with sorrow, with joy, with surprise, with wonder can be used after using the reporting verb exclaimed.
- Connective that is used to remove inverted commas.
- Exclamatory sentence in the reported speech is changed into a statement or assertive sentence.
- The exclamatory mark is removed. (Because the sentence is converted into a statement)
- Personal pronouns dangerous and other words are changed according to the assertive sentence.

- She said, "How beautiful the picture is!"
- The businessman said, "How foolish I have been!"
- My mother said, "What a lovely house!"
- She said to me, "What a dirty face you have!"
- The teacher said, "What a terrible noise!"
- I said, "How dreadful!"
- He said to me, "Hello! Where are you going?"
- His wife said to him, "How ridiculous you look!"
- Looking at him they said, "How unlucky!"
- She said, "What a stormy day it is!"

1. She said, "How beautiful the picture is!"
Ans.
She exclaimed that the picture was very beautiful.
2. The businessman said, "How foolish I have been!"
Ans.
The businessman exclaimed that he had been very foolish.
3. My mother said, "What a lovely house!"
Ans.
My mother exclaimed that it was a very lovely house.
4. She said to me, "What a dirty face you have!"
Ans.
She exclaimed that I had a very dirty face.
5. The teacher said, "What a terrible noise!"
Ans.
The teacher exclaimed with anger that there was a terrible noise.
6. I said, "How dreadful!"
Ans.
I exclaimed that it was very dreadful.
7. He said to me, "Hello! Where are you going?"
Ans.
He greeted me and asked where I was going.
8. His wife said to him, "How ridiculous you look!"
Ans.
His wife exclaimed that he looked very ridiculous.
9. Looking at him they said, "How unlucky!"
Ans.
