3.6 Think Before You Speak.
Change the narration.
1. A young man went to his teacher and said, "I have spoken very harsh and unkind words to my friend."
2. He said, "How can I make ammends?"
3. He said, "I am afraid that I have lost my friendship with him."
4. The spiritual teacher said to the young man, "write down on this paper all the harsh things you said to him."
5. The wise teacher continued, " Now tear up the sheet of paper into as many small beads as you can."
6. "Throw the bits out of this window,"he said.
7. "Now, go out into the street and collect as many bits of the paper as you can, " the teacher ordered him.
8. The young man tammered, " But....but, that will be difficult..."
9. The teacher suggested, " It will be difficult indeed, but do give it a try."
10. The teacher said to him, " Once you have spoken the words aloud, it is very difficult to take them back."
11. The spiritual teacher said, " Therefore, learn to think before you speak in anger."
12. "O wise one, how may we know when it is right to speak?"
